From a Small Town
Fri, April 5, 2019 - As a Black Hawk helicopter entered the skies of Snow Hill, MD, students of Snow Hill High School anxiously awaited its arrival. Gen. Janeen Birckhead, Maryland Army National Guard & Snow Hill High Alumna, arrived in style and presented a lesson in leadership to the students.
In her interview with Kelsie Cairns, 47 ABC, Gen. Birckhead said, “Being from the shore, being from a small community, it doesn’t matter; you can be anything you want to be.” She is a great example of that statement.
The Snow Hill community has its advantages for our youth; it’s more like a family rather than a community. We go to the same schools, stores, churches and parks; it’s hard not knowing who your neighbors are. Our neighbors become our friends, and then become family. We love and nurture one another; we come together when times are tough, we celebrate the good. With the support of an entire community, any single one of us truly can do anything we set our minds to. The Snow Hill community is proud to call Gen. Birckhead “one of its own”.
